MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11 NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS BETHLEHEM Burials: John Haszonics, on Octo­ber 16. He was born in Abda,, Hun­gary, and was 83 years old. Gabor Macsi Sr. on October 18. He was born in Tiszaladány, Hun­gary. Baptism: Nancy Beth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Prank Harnos. Godparents were Mr. and Mrs. A. Jurbala. CARTERET Mrs. Béla G. Nagy donated a Hungarian flag in memory of her recently deceased husband. This flag was used at the flag-raising ceremony in front of the Carteret Borough Hall on October 23. The day was declared Hungarian Free­dom Day by Mayor Stephen Skiba honoring the 1956 Hungarian up­rising at its 6th anniversary. Our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner was attended by some 300 people. A triple anniversary was observed: the Lorantfy Society was congratu­lated in a Hungarian speech by Mrs. John Nemish from the Junior Wo­men’s Guild on their 40th anniver­sary; the Men’s Club was greeted in Hungarian by former vice chief elder Kalman Kerékgyártó as they entered the 11th year of their acti­vities. Finally, it was remembered with gratitude that the congregation dedicated its parish house, Bethlen Hall, 10 years ago, in 1952. The Rev. Imre Bertalan from Passaic, N. J. delivered the Thanksgiving Address. Chief Elder Louis J. Szabó welcomed the guests, Honorary Chief Elder John Nemish acted as toastmaster. The Youth Fellowship presented an excellent variety show. The Junior Women’s Guild — Mrs. Joseph Ker­­tis president and Mrs. Leonard Sen­­delsky vice-president — were in charge of the evening. Wedding: Joseph Nagy, Jr. and Frances Catherine Pakulski on No­vember 11th; witnesses: Vito and Barbara Stasolla. DUQUESNE 223 of our members lived with the sacrament on World Wide Com­munion Sunday. The World Community Day ser­vice of the United Church Women was held in our church and our pastor installed the new officers. We were happy to have with us Mr. Joseph W. Cookson of Trenton, N. J. on the second and third of November. He met in seperate con­ferences with our Christian Edu­cation Committee, the Sunday School Staff, as well as our Youth Fellowship. He gave us guidance in Education for Covenant Living, as well as in preparation for the next Youth Conference. Our Fellowship Dinner on Novem­ber 4 was well attended; we had the Rev. Louis Nagy as our guest speaker. November is designated by our Church Council as Bethlen Home month, requesting contributions to­ward its building fund. ROEBLING Our Annual Bazaar was held on October 27th and it was a very successful event. Bethlen Home Sunday was held in our church by the Reverend Alexander Daroczy on November 4th. The Church Council decided the date of our church’s 50th anniver­sary next year. It will be held on Sunday, September 29, 1963. We ask the sister churches to keep this date in mind. Mr. Joseph W. Cookson spoke at the monthly meeting of Sunday School teachers on November 5th. Mr. Cookson discussed the new Covenant Life curriculum proposed for general acceptance in our de­nomination. MIAMI Our Miami Church was host to the Fall Quarterly Meeting of the Greater Miami Council of Churches on October 26. The meeting’s bul­letin carried this note of apprecia­tion: “A very pleasant tradition is our meeting with the First Hungarian United Church each fall. These good friends greet us with true Christian hospitality and make this dinner their annual financial con­tribution to the Council ministry. The $1.50 that you pay for the meal is returned to us. Your Coun­cil would be happy to receive like invitations from other churches.” PERTH AMBOY Our annual Christmas iBazaar will be held on Sunday December 2nd, starting at 12 noon. The Wo­men’s Guild is in charge of the arrangements. Our Thanksgiving Banquet was attended by many from far and near. Appreciation and thanks is hereby extended to all who worked and helped in any way to make this affair a memorable occasion. The Christmas party for the Sun­day and Bible School children will be held on Sunday, December 16th at 2:00 P.M. in our Center. The Women’s Guild will be the host to the children. Please, notify the church office if your address has changed recent­ly, so that you will be sure to re­ceive the Christmas holiday letter which will be mailed out to every member. Strickland and Miklós Magyar Jr. Deaths: Mrs. Joseph Kisty 74 years old, Mr. Kálmán Kedves 53 years old. New members reseived: Mrs. Ronald Kafchak and Mr. and Mrs. Bertalan Toth and family. TRENTON The Women’s Guild Calendar Party was a great success. At this party some of the acts from the Young Peoples’ Variety Show put on a repeat performance. Amid the strains of the violin and cimbalom, the cakling chickens, the ohs and ahs of the skilled throwing rings on coke bottles, the homemade noodles and cakes being sold, and the delicious popcorn poping, Octo­ber drew to a close with the Annual Church Bazaar. The church mem­bership now looks toward Novem­ber for a gala time at the Harvest Dance sponsored by the Women’s Guild. Trenton is following many of its sister churches by reorganizing its Christian Education program. Regu­lar Sunday School Teachers meet­ings are being held the first Wed­nesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. New tables and chairs haev already been purchased for some of the classrooms. The Lorántfy Zsuzsanna Ladies Aid Society will resume their regu­lar Sunday afternoon novelty and coffee parties starting November 11th. The delicious aroma of kalács and donuts baking will again fill the halls of the education building. The recent Elders Conference of the Eastern and New York Classes held in Trenton also marked suc­cess. A word of thanks and praise goes forth to the Women’s Guild for preparing and serving the clos­ing meal.
