MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11 NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS TRENTON, New Jersey The Youth Fellowship and Young People’s Society of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Trenton held a weekend retreat at Camp Delaware, Hopewell, New Jersey on September 8, 9, 10. The religious topics discussed were the lives of John Mark and Silas, two missionaries of Christ. Recreational activities included swimming, hiking, and baseball. The quarterly conference of the Eastern Classis Youth Federation will be held at the Hungarian Reformed Church of Trenton. The theme for discussion will be “Thou Shalt,” dealing with the ten commandments. Registration will be one dollar. Members of the Hungarian Reformed Churches are invited. CARTERET, N. J. The observence of World Wide Communion brought 152 members around the Lord’s Table on October 1st. All church organizations have started their Fall program. The Junior Women’s Guild has elected the following slate of officers for the 1961/62 season: Mrs. Bertha Cromwell president, Mrs. Barbara Stasolla vice-president, Mrs. Kay Lukach secretary, Mrs. Betty Castantini corresponding secretary, (address: 1 Dunster St., Carteret, N. J.) Mrs. Marge Jensen treasurer, Mrs. Jennie Sokolowski chaplain. Among other projects the Guild assumed responsibility for a nursery-hour program to make church attendance possible for young parents. Mrs. Judy Sendelsky and Mrs. Betty Castantini are co-chairmen of the project. New officers of the Youth Fellowship include Eleanor Sokolowski president, Ronald Pross vice-president, Nancy Nemish secretary (address: 22 Matthew Ave., Carteret, N. J.), Roger Martin treasurer and Albert Pirigyi chaplain. The Fellowship will conduct the Halloween trick and treating for UNICEF, is selling Christmas cards and already makes plans for Christmas carolling. Church School started with a record number of registration in 9 classes. The present teachers’ staff include: Miss Linda Jensen, Miss Nancy Nemish, Mrs. Louis Nagy, Mrs. Michael Lukach, Leslie Harsanyi, Miss Georgette Cinege, Mrs. Andrew Mitro; assistant teachers are Miss Ethel Papp, Miss Margie Acs, Miss Lisa Nagy, Miss Eleanor Sokolowski, Mrs. Marge Kovács is superintendent, Miss Linda Jensen is secretary and Miss Nancy Nemish is treasurer. The senior and junior confirmation classes are taught by the Pastor; a new Hungarian School on Saturdays is being conducted in two classes by the Pastor and Mrs. Harsanyi. Present enrollment 22. Baptisms: Stephen Robert, son of Louis W. Fabian and his wife, Helen Poulos (godparents: John and Mary Lazar); Julia Marie, daughter of Robert Legeny and Julia Shovey (godparents: Louis Shovey Jr. and Alice Shovey). Weddings: Tibor Varga and Theresa Ann Ricchiuti; George L. Fischer and Elaine Joan Sabo. The annual Church dinner will be held this year on November 11th. DUQUESNE, PA. On World Wide Communion Sunday seventy-two per cent of our communicants (243 souls) lived with the sacrament. The members of the Church Council made a general visitation of members during the proceeding week. During the month of September all organizations came to life again after the summer recess. - The newest among them is our Youth Fellowship which is a combined group of last year’s senior and junior youth groups. This youth organization held their organizational meeting on Sunday, October 1. They elected the following officers: Robert Sapos president, Joseph Kish, Jr., vicepresident, Judy Lewis secretary and Stephanie Szőke treasurer. The group is represented by Gerald Polivka and Stephanie Szőke at the local United Christian Youth Movement, Albert Helmeczi is the clubreporter. Our Sunday School was renewed, teachers as well as students were assigned to new classes. The Staff includes Joseph Kallery, supt. with Ernest Kovach as his assistant. Junior Staff members: Eileen Jenulevich, secretary; Gerald Polivka, treasurer; Alan Palagy, recorder. Pianists are Stephanie Szőke, Shirley Stiver and Gerald Polivka. Teachers: Robert Kish (Youth), Margaret Ochiva, Yolanda Estu, Helen Sapos (Jr.-Hi), Dorothy Horvath, Marian Nagy, Betty Larkin (Jr.), Peggy Vasilisin, Loretta Kish, Helen Homoki (Primary Dept.). The Preschool Department is in charge of Margaret Kovach with Mildred Sabo as assistant, the teachers changing every quarter in this department. October was designated as “Bethlen Home Month” when contributions toward the new building of the aged are received. Our next Communion Service will be held on November 19, Sunday before Thanksgiving Day. PERTH AMBOY, New Jersey During October Loyalty Month Crusade will be observed in our congregation. World Wide Communion, Youth Sunday, and Layman Sunday were observed. The fourth Sunday shall be Family and Guest Sunday. Children should encourage parents to come to church, and parents should invite friends, classmates, business associates or someone who does not attend church elsewhere. October 29th, Reformation Sunday, the Annual Elders Conference shall be held in our sister church 229 E. 82nd St., New York City, starting at 2:00 P.M. The United Protestant Reformation Day Festival of Perth Amboy will be held in the John Calvin Reformed Church. Saturday and Sunday Bible- School and Confirmation Classes are waiting for all of our boys and girls. Parents, please, do not neglect your Christian obligation, send your children regularly. The choir rehearsal is every Wednesday from 7 to 9 P.M. New members are welcome. Old ones are encouraged to come. Preparations for Thanksgiving and Christmas must be made now! Our Young Women’s Guild held a successful tupperware party. Sunday School resumed its regular weekly activities. 28 children are enrolled in the nursary, kindergarten, primary and junior classes (ages 3- 13). Teachers in this department are Mrs. Helen Bordash superintendent, Mrs. Clara Trainor, Mrs. Audrey Emri, Mrs. Bertha Bartha, Mrs. Hetty Komjáthy and Mr. Bert Bertha.
