10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ QUARTERLY CONFERENCE The quarterly conference of the Eastern Classis Bethlen Youth Federation was held at Roebling, N. J. on December 7. Opening prayer was rendered by William Orosz of Perth Amboy followed by Scripture reading. Robert Arnold, president of the Roebling club welcomed the delegates. Guest speaker of the conference was the Rev. Earl William Kennedy of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, California. Based on the text “You are the salt of the earth” Mr. Kennedy gave a highly inspiring talk on how to think and act like Christians. Miss Julia Wargo presided over the business meeting. Plans for the Annual Dance (January 10, Carteret) and for the Christmas Social were completed. The Christmas Social will be at Roebling on December 20 and will start at 6:30 with dinner. Entertainment will be given by a band from 7:30 to 11:30. Members of all clubs are invited to attend. Next quarterly conference will be at Staten Island, New York. A $25 donation was voted for “Magyar Egyház”. All information and articles for the “Estarener” are to be sent to the Staten Island Club by January 21. Duquesne During the fall we had two Communion Services: On the first Sunday of October in the World Wide Communion 247 participated and in the Thanksgiving Communion (Nov. 23) 203 partook of the sacrament. In October we reorganized the choir and organized a children’s choir for the first time; both are under the direction of Paul Shigo. Our final Fellowship Dinner of the year, held in October, was a complete success. As it is known, we had three dinners in a year without selling any tickets. The offering received at the supper covered the actual cost of the dinner threefold. Also it supplemented the income usually derived from the annual bazaar. We had a true Christian fellowship with appropiate high level program, the Rev. Dr. Tibor Chikes being the speaker and the pastor outlining the present problems of the congregation. The congregation was not only well represented in numbers but by its several age-groups, too. At a recent meeting of the Church Council the pastor made a report of a substantial memorial contribution by the Pacolay family, a detailed report of which will be made after the dedication of the gift. In the advent season all our organizations had their special commemoration of Christmas at their meetings. Our Sunday School children and their teachers received their Christmas gifts from the church on Sunday morning, December 21, and in turn, they presented a well-planned program on that evening in the church. The schedule of services and special events of Christmas week will be mailed to members with the pastoral letter of the season. TRENTON, N. J. Templom; Home Avenue és Beatty Street sarkán.
