12 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ of dedication) This means, that in order to maintain this high figure, many members have to give more to equalize the lesser amounts. One-third of our families, about 59 of our low group, gave a total of $1,250.85, while 62 families of our high group gave $10,188.12 (each giving above $100.00 and averaging $164.32). The explanation is certainly not the difference in the families’ incomes as the majority of our members would fall into just about the same income bracket. The key to this problem is found in the sincerity and dedication of our members to Christ and His cause. May God bless the pioneers of cheerful giving. TREASURER’S REPORT: The condition of the Treasury is the direct result of our members’ faithful giving. I will give only a few highlights here. Our income was above $25,000 ($25,361.72), our expenses amounted to $29,333.20. Part of our balance from the previous year was paid into the mortgage and investment. We were able to pay an extra $4 000.00 into the mortgage capital over and above our monthly payments, reducing the amount of the mortgage to $90,000.00. The renort shows that our expenditures in the section of mortgage and interest payments, as well as the pur"hase of bells, other improvements and investments, amounted to almost $17,000. The balance in the Treasury as of December 31, 1955, is $3,000.00. ORGANIZATIONS: This is the part of the report usually on the bright side if we look at the accomplishments, and the dark side if we consider the number of members who do not participate in this active ',rork: The leaders and active members of our groups reallv deserve the thanks and recognition of the congregation, for they not only donate and donate well, but give of their time and talent. Mav God bless them, there are not too many of them. The Friendly Circle Club again heads the groups’ donations — they gave *2 600.00 (about 12 couples). The Women’s Club gave *1.400.00, the older group of women. $856.66. The Men’s Club gave $300.00, and the Choir, whose job is not so much in giving as singing, gave $140.00. The total of all was $5,296.66. Now here we face a real problem. A problem which we inherit from year to year, and which must be dealt with now. If we want our church to really flourish, it is not enough to attend services epee in a while, or even to be satisfied with regular attendance. We need active workers, as well. All of our clubs — Women’s and Men’s Clubs, are in dire need of new members. — If I were to count the real workers among the Council, the three major clubs, the choir, the Sunday School and Boy Scouts, in these seven separate groups I would not find more than fifty. Though these groups work with a much larger personnel. there are many duplications. Many in this group of about fifty belong and work not onlv in one organization, but in some cases in two, three and four groups at the same time! 50 out of 300 adults! One-sixth working and five-sixths sitting back and looking on — and many times criticizing. There are a few exceptional cases where it would be impossible for one to be active in these groups, but in most of the cases it is just outright negligence and un-Christian, expecting other to do their share. If you need an invitation, it is hereby extended, and I urge you all to join one of the organizations in 1956. U.S. PROTESTANT LEADERS VISIT RUSSIA New York, N. Y. — A deputation of eight U.S. Protestant leaders will make a ten-day visit to Russia in March for conversations with Christian leaders in the Soviet Union, it was announced today. The deputation was selected by the National Council of Churches, and will travel to Russia under Council sponsorship. The deputation will be the first broadly representative Protestant group to visit the Soviet Union from the U.S. since the Bolshevik revolution. The public announcement that a two-way visit had been arranged in negotiations begun last June was made by Dr. Eugene Carson Blake, president of the National Council of Churches, at this morning’s opening session of the two-day quarterly meeting of the council’s governing General Board. The deputation is scheduled to leave by commercial airline for Moscow on March 9, from New York, and to return to the United States on March 22. They will arrive in Moscow on March 10 and leave on March 20. It is the hope of the deputation, expressed by Dr. Blake, that the conversations with the Russian church leaders may embrace many subjects of mutual interest. As conceived by the U.S. churchmen, these topics would include what the churches of the two countries have done and are doing to promote world peace; the freedom of the churches to fulfill their mission; the Christian faith and other religions; the Christian faith and modern science, the current trends in theological education; Christian literature and the relations between the churches in the United States and the Soviet Union. It is the expectation that the conversations begun in Moscow will be continued when the Russian church leaders come to the United States on or about June 1.
