16 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ A LETTER TO THE MEMBERS, AND FRIENDS OF THE FREE MAGYAR REFORMED CHURCH IN AMERICA Dear Fellow-Members and Friends: In civilian life, as we all know, it is not enough to support just one’s own community. The county, state and federal governments must also be supported. The same rule applies to the life of the Church. Beyond the needs of the local chrch the needs of the larger units of the denomination must also be met. It is for this reason that we seek your aid for the general and missionary fund of our church, the Free Magyar Reformed Church in America. Our Church is the sole denominational representative of the ancient Hungarian branch of Reformed Christendom in the whole free world. We have opportunities for service for the good of our whole people, the likes of which no other groups have. The eyes of co-religionists in all parts of the world are fixed upon with expectation. In the meantime we have opening for expansion right in our own land. Last year new churches joined us even in far-away California. Our Church is called to greatness through the narrow pathway of greater service and sacrifice. We must keep our house in order and we must become missionary minded. In God’s name we beg you to believe us, and believing, hasten to enable our Church to grow and to become a blessing for the whole of our people. Your donations may be handed over to your local church, or mailed to our general treasurer, Mr. Frank P i r i g y i, 23 St. Ann Street, Carteret, N. J. Donations for the general fund and mission were received from the following churches: Trenton, N. J., Leechburg, Pa., Perth Amboy, N. J., Staten Island, N. Y. We urge the rest of the churches to send their donations to the treasurer. Yours for Christ’s cause for a greater Free Magyar Reformed Church in America, FRANK SZALAY FRANK PIRIGYI General Lay-Curator Treasurer ZOLTÁN BEKY Arch Dean ★ YOUTH CONFERENCE The Fall Conference of the Eastern section of the Bethlen Youth Federation will be held on Sunday October 14th 1956 in our Perth Amboy Church. Members of the various Young People’s organizations are requested to attend. The Theme is: “Semper Reformari!” Continous Reformation. Those who are not yet members of any of our youth organizations are also asked to attend. REPORT OF THE YOUTH CONFERENCE The 17th National Bethlen Youth Conference was held in Trenton, New Jersey on September 1, 2, and 3 1956. After registration on Saturday and the Executive Board’s meeting in the afternoon, a film entitled “Fire Upon The Earth” was presented amid a program of entertainment by the Trenton Club. The following morning during the Worship Service Zoltán Beky Arch Dean preached: “Never Leave the River”. He stressed the fact that we should never leave our RELIGION. Rev. Monroe Drew Presbyterian minister was the guest speaker of the Conference. A discussion period and business meeting followed. Julius Nagy presided during the meeting, Dorothy Ender, Trenton, N. J. was the Secretary, and the Treasurer, William Jardanhazy, McKeesport, Pa. Delegates from Duquesne, Pa., Perth Amboy, N. J., Roebling, N. J., Bethlehem, Penna, attended this Conference. The next conference will be held in Duquesne Pa. The newly elected officers were sworn in: President: Frank Horvath, Duquesne, Pa.; Vice-President: William Orosz, Perth Amboy, N. J.; Secretary: Betty Nagy, Trenton, N. J.; Treasurer: William Jardanhazy, McKeesport, Pa.; Members-at-Large: Betty Czeto, (East) Perth Amboy, N. J., Francis Helmeczi, (West) Duquesne, Pa. On Monday morning breakfast was served at the Church Hall after which everyone departed for an outing. Group discussions were held with the ministers present. The “Chef” for the day was Zoltán Beky Arch Dean who prepared the tastiest “szalonna”, Hot Dogs and Pork Roll sandwiches. Games were played until the final “So-Long” was said, which was the saddest part of the conference. Everyone agreed that we would meet again in Duquesne in 1957. We hope that all those who did not attend this conference will be at the next conference in Duquesne Pa. We would like to urge all young people of the various churches throughout the East and West to attend these conferences AS IT IS YOUR CONFERENCE and it is what you make it. We hope that each forth-coming conference will be a success and the membership in the BETHLEN YOUTH FEDERATION enlarged. We, of the Trenton Young People’s Society were very happy to have been chosen to play host for the past conference, and we hope that those who attended have gained knowledge, both spiritually and socially. SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR! DOROTHY E. ENDER Young People’s Society Trenton, New Jersey
