14 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ text closes the mighty 15th. chapter of 1 Corinthians. “But thanks be to God, who giveth the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore my beloved, be steadfast, immovable. For that reason, Brethren, because God is at work; because He has given us His only begotten Son for our redemption; because He is our Father through our Lord Jesus Christ who loves us despite our weakness and sins; because Christ fought the forces of darkness up to the cross; because His victory over the powers of the Devil is our victory, therefore, and therefore alone, can we be steadfast, immovable. And so the entire life of the Christian is a therefore. As the germination and growth of a little plant, the budding of the flower is a therefore. As the becoming and the development of a child is a therefore; because there are loving parents or godly people around him, who care for him. As the existence of America is a therefore; because there were men and women that in the time of need stood together and trusting in God alone, gave their life for freedom, justice and humanity and because against all human merit God gave his blessing to its righteous cause; therefore the star-spangled banner yet waves. As the whole world with its sun, moon, earth and stars, with its molecules, atoms and electrons is a therefore; because the Creator sustains it all. And so the entire life of a Christian is a therefore; because Christ is given to us; because of His redemptive work for us; because of His death and resurrection and ascension; because of His reign at the right hand of the Father Almighty; and because of His glorious promises; therefore, my beloved brethren we may become steadfast and immovable out of grace. It is a good thing, indeed, that the heart be strengthened. And that happens through grace. Devotion held at the Calvinistic Conference, Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 20, 1956. REV. Grand Rapids 6, Michigan JESUS CHRIST AS OUR KING In our previous article we explained why Jesus is called our Prophet and High Priest. Now we would like to understand why He is called King in the Holy Bible. These following Bible texts help us to comprehend the meaning of His being a King: “God raised Jesus from the dead, and made him sit at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority... and He has put all things under his feet.” Eph. 1:20,22, “Jesus Christ gave himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.” Tit. 2:14, “If we endure with Christ we shall also reign with him, if we deny him, He will also deny us.” 2 Timoth. 2:12, “I am with you always”, said Jesus,” Matt. 28:20, “One is your Master, the Christ.” Matt. 23:8. These Bible texts clearly show that after the resurrection our Lord Jesus Christ was taken up into heaven and He became the only ruler, Judge and King of the whole universe. He, as the eternal Son of God, together with the Father and the Holy Spirit, governs, upholds and finally judges this world. As to ourselves, individually, the kingship of Jesus Christ means that He not only obtained for us the forgiveness of our sins and our eternal life in heaven, but as the Bible says, Jesus has purchased us with his blood to be his people. He wants to be the only Lord, Master and King over us. He wants us to pledge allegiance to Him, and only to him, while we live on earth. He wants us to love, serve, and above all, follow him in all circumstances. His following is hard and it requires endurance, patience, very often. His following means to tread on his path. But his encouraging promise is here with us: I am with you always . . . Jesus, our King, through his omnipresent divine power, is able to protect and strengthen us to remain faithful and loyal to him in face of any kind of hardships and temptations. The greatest blessing, of course, of his being our King is that finally we will partake of his kingly glory in heaven, we will reign with him. “If we endure, we shall also reign with him, if we deny him, He also will deny us.” A faithful Christian, who knows what Jesus did for him on the cross, will never be a blind subject of earthly rulers, will never deny and put aside his love and obedience to Jesus for the sake of any earthly man. That our resurrected Lord Jesus Christ is King indeed is not manifest yet in this world to all, but it will be when He will return in his glory, accompained with his angels, to hold his judgement. About the second coming of Jesus and the events which took place along with it, we will write later. STEPHEN KOVÁCS----------------•---------------DO YOU KNOW? Do You Know that Senator Johnston, known for his severe judgment, stated when introducing the Immigration Quota Law, “Magyars who entered the United States were in morals, health, thrift and industry, among the most desirable elements America could have hoped for”? Do you know that in lighter music the names of Francis Lehár, Victor Jacobi, Albert Szirmai, and especially Imre Kálmán, are known as that of the most popular composers? That even America’s own Sigmund Romberg migrated to the United States from Hungary?
