12 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ ONWARD TO PERTH AMBOY The Bethlen Youth Federation of the Free Magyar Reformed Church of America decided to have our yearly National Youth Conference in Perth Amboy, N. J., on Labor Day weekend, September 4, 5, 6th, 1954. The three-day program will be most interesting to those young men and women who will attend. The Committee is considering wholesome entertainment with serious thought-provoking messages and discussions. Start to think about your attendance NOW! This yearly Youth Conference is a great uplift not only to you, personally but to all who will come. Last year in Detroit we had many young people from different Churches. We pray, that with this and other forth-coming invitations not only our human voice, but the call of the Holy Spirit might go to each and every one of you inspiring your hearts and souls, that you may come so that we all could have a very successful Conference. This year is a good oportunity for all young people in our constituency to attend and we ask that you should not miss it. A detailed program and a call for registration etc. will be announced soon: be ready! and willing to attend. Please, send us a 2c Postal card. This was a gain of 3,604,124, or 4.1 per cent over the previous year. A total of 59 per cent of Americans —three out of every five—are now members of religious bodies. The statistics were reported in the 1953 Yearbook of American Churches. They are based on figures given by 251 religious bodies. According to the Yearbook, the church membership gain in 1952 was two-and-a-half times greater than the country’s population growth. This has continued a trend of the past decade. Protestants registered a membership gain of 3.9 per cent during the year and Roman Catholics increased 3.5 per cent. Protestants now number 54,229,963 or 34.7 per cent of the population, while there are 30,253,427 Roman Catholics, or 19.3 per cent. Gains for both groups have been virtually on a par for more than fifty years. Fellow Christian Young People: In the past year, we have done an extremely large amount of work to strenghten the foundation of our organization, it is time to build our future. That task has been placed upon the shoulders of the newlyelected officers and those to come, along with the members and our two faithful advisors. We have already eliminated a portion of that task — finances, by becoming and volunteering our services as janitors and caretakers of our church buildings and property. For this possibility, we are grateful and thank our late pastor, Rev. Dr. Charles Vincze and the loyal co-operation of our members. Our greatest ambition and goal for the year 1954 is to have a successful conference since there has been no national young peoples’ gathering in Perth Amboy for eight years. Now we must continue on wisely in our spiritual as well as materialistic work with other youth clubs in the vicinity. We must strive to strengthen organizations of our denomination such as the Bethlen Home in Ligonier and our church paper, the Magyar Egyház. We must especially endeavor to co-operate with our newly-elected pastor, Rev. Dezső Abraham. We shall give him all the assistance we possibly can. I know that he, in turn, will be just too willing to help us in all our ambitions. May the Lord bless us and keep us. May his countenance shine upon us. May He give us leadership in all the workings of his way, for the sake of His son, Jesus Christ, our Savior. Florence E.
