10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ ENGLISH SCiO SECTION Your Thinking ... Is It Clear? A well-adjusted life is of great importance. It brings mental and physical health. It causes the development of good personalities. It spells happiness. Some people think that happiness depends on others. In some ways it does, but the emphasis is on YOU. For a well-adjusted life depends, with God’s grace, mostly on yourself. That is why I have stressed the following thoughts in a series or articles: Do you know yourself? talents, weaknesses, faults, ambitions, etc. Have you adaptability? Can you adjust to life as it comes without too much complaining and sputtering? Have you friends? By meeting social obligations and being friendly yourself. Can you control your temper? Yet feel deeply, have loyalties, however let your mind control your feelings. What habits have you? Good, easy to live with, constructive, helpful? Is your work suitable? Does it tax your abilities and require concentration, are you happy in it, fit for it, does it help your Christian life? These are searching questions, well worth your thought. Watch the people whom you think have pleasing personalities and see how they rate on these questions. You will find something revealing. And each one of us should test ourself, find our troubles, if we have them, and remedy them whenever possible. No one need feel like a failure in life. God has not made us for that purpose. One more thought I would like to leave with you. It will be the last one on this subject of personality development. To me it is the most important one, undergirding and prevading all the others. HAVE YOU ACHIEVED A SATISFACTORY PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE? What do I mean with that? Well, if you have achieved this you will have— A wholesome attitude toward life’s problems. You will accept that living means many problems from day to day. We can dread these or we can welcome these. It seems to me that one can not be very much alive if he does not welcome the problems of life. They have to be solved. The question is how? This reveals our attitudes. If we have the right understanding or principles by which we can solve them then they are a challenge to us. They improve our characters. They give us something worthwhile to think about. This can only be done if we have the right ideas about life and its purpose. A Healthy Interest In Living This is God’s world. No matter how many evils stalk around, yet, after everything is said and done, a Christion believes that God is in control and He wants us to make the best of life. The Calvinist believes that this world with all its many relationships is worth knowing. It’s full of beauty and purpose. To get this we have to show interest, much interest. For this we acquire knowledge, something we as Calvinists prize highly. So, we show interest in home, church, school and state, all of which comprize the full-orbed life. We want to know and belong to our clubs, our societies. We read our newspapers and our church papers. We question, we listen, we attend educational programs ad cultural programs. Life has zest, purpose, goals. And all of this because we have the fundamentals of living as our guide to direct us on, up and upward to higher ground until some day we reach the celestial grounds. You think life is worth while? Your interest in life will give you the answer. Satisfatcion From The Process Of Living. Just to be alive seems good. One does not have to live in feverish haste as if he will miss something if he isn’t up and doing. No, the right philosophy of life makes us realize that all worthwhile things will be lasting. They never perish. Our right relationship to God becomes more precious as life goes on. Our friendships increase with all those whose life we share, our best values increase while the more temporary ones fade away. Understanding deepens, love for truth widens. All because we think and live right. God blesses that. Sane Conduct. Did you ever stop to think why it is easier for one than for another to leave evil alone? It’s inside the person. He has standards that mean something to him. Everything that does not come up to these standards is discarded. This person has principle. He weighs and measures conduct that he sees. Then, he chooses the sane conduct which matches his thoughts. He becomes reliable, honest, straightforward. He calls a spade a spade. No evil compromises, no excuses, no dodging, but, he meets life squarely and acts accordingly. He is courageous. Why? Because he lives by a sound philosophy of life. How do we obtain this sound philosophy? From the Word of God. Here we see the purpose of life, the destiny of life. If we follow God’s plan for our lives, we have that sound thinking and purpose. Now, you may understand why our Christian leaders put so much emphasis on Bible study. We cannot get
