12 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ nvTn. YOUTH Tv"»TMTM* Preparations for the Conference The Executive Committee of your Bethlen Youth Federation met in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, February 21, to make the necessary preparations for the forthcoming fourteenth Annual National Conference to be held in Detroit, Michigan on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of September. This was the first meeting of its kind in the history of the Federation, and from the results which were obtained it can be considered a very successful and worthwhile venture. Present at the meeting were: Albert W. Kovács, President (Ca); Shirley Fedor, Vice-President (McK); Ethel Milak, Secretary (Ca); Violet Pastor, Treasurer (Det); and Ernest Nagy, Member-at- Large (Duq). Advising were the Reverends Imre Bertalan and Stephen Szőke. Also in attendance were: Joseph Nemeth (McK), Joseph Olah (Duq), Julius Nagy (President of the Duquesne Youth Fellowship), Jeanette Izsó (Ca), Margeret Nagy (Duq), and James Tarci (Ca). Unable to attend was Marion Kovács, Member-at-Large (Trent). The tentative schedule for the conference was discussed, and it was determined that the speakers should be the Reverend Stephen Szőke, who will speak on several aspects of our Magyar Reformed heritage, and the Reverend Roe Johnston (Evergreen Village Presbyterian Church), noted for his contributions to youth work, who will speak on the role of the young people in the living Church. It was brought out in the discussion concerning the publication of the Constitution that copies will soon be available to those desiring to have one. A discussion of membership resulted in a study of the Federation’s constitutional requirements, and Section 5(a) of the By-Laws will be used as the guide and enforced. This will be discussed at the next business meeting of the Federation on September 6th. The increased importance of the Magyar Egyház to the youth of the Church, in the light of its increased English Section, was also the subject of discussion. In consideration of its role as a vital method of communication between the Federation and its members, the need was felt for a "Reporter” to transmit the Federation and club news to the Editor. To fill this immediate need, Shirley Fedor was designated to this position. Since it is potentially a very important position, the Committee is going to recommend that this be made a permanent position, provided for constitutionally. It recommends, too, that this position be filled by designation by the Executive Committee. The report on the foundation of a permanent camp by the Federation was discussed. Other possibilities were suggested, so it was decided to open the question to the membership at the general meeting. Also considered was the possibility of sending a delegate to the World Youth Conference of the Alliance of the Reformed Churches Holding the Presbyterian System. CHRISTMAS AFTERTHOUGHT So quick to worship Him as child, So slow to follow Him as man —My split will is unreconciled To God’s one purpose in his plan: That Bethlehem and Calvary — Two focus-points six miles apart — Should overrule geography And intersect within my heart. The manger Babe, no less adored, Is now the Master to obey. With words, I name him as my Lord, With feet, take a disciple’s way. —Elinor Lennen IF YOU LIKE THE ENGLISH SECTION TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT IT
