MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 41 “WORK NOT FOR THE FOOD WHICH PERISHETH . . New Jersey állam kormányzójának levele My dear friends: There is nothing worth having in life which does not entail a certain amount of sacrifice to get, whether it be success, happiness or wealth. A mother’s love may be cited as an exception — but do we really get it if we make no return? It is like a far country of surpassing beauty which we have always intended to visit ,but our time has Seen so occupied by little trips into the shabby house next door we have never made the effort. In times like these, when so much that we have valued has been swept away, would it not be wise before we build again to see that we “work not for the food which perisheth, but for the food which abideth into eternal life?” How often have I read those immortal words of Lincoln: “I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true; I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live up to what light I have. I will stand with anybody who stands right, keep with him while he is right, and part with him when he is wrong.” We have committed the Golden Rule to memory; let us now commit it to life. We have preached brotherhood for centuries, we now need to find material basis for brotherhood. It has well been said, “Blessed are they who have the gift of making friends, for it is one of God’s best gifts. It involves many things, but above all the power of giving out of one’s self, and appreciating whatever is noble and loving in another.” To the members of this Church, permit me to congratulate you upon this, the thirtieth anniversary of the birth of the Magyar Reformed Church. This edifice is part of the foundation upon which this nation and the nations of the world rest, for without God’s house and widespread teachings of Christ, no nation or nations can hope to survive. Cordially yours, A. Harry Moore, Governor, State of New Jersey.
