(lb). Şerafeddin İsa or İlyas by real name, FIRDEVSÎ is also known as FIRDEVSÎ-YI R UMÎ, FIRDEVSÎ-YI T AV ÎL or UZUN F ÍRDEVSÍ . He lived in Balıkesir, where he also wrote a large part of his works. The Siileyman-name was written by order of Sultan Beyazid 11 (1481­1512). When the Sultan found it lengthy, FIRDEVSÎ returned to Balıkesir and tried to abridge his work.
