Mustafa Paşa and Sahn-ı Seman. He became cadi of Bursa and Istanbul (1535), was given the title of Rumeli kazaskeri ( kazasker of Rumelia) (1537) and became Şeyhülislâm in October 1545, holding this highest position during the period of Kanunî Sultan Süleyman (1520-1566) and Sultan Selim II (1566-1574) until his death. He is considered the most important Şeyhülislâm after KEMAL PAŞAZADE (d. 940/1534) and therefore he is also remembered as MUALUM-İ SANÎ. Other works by the same author: EBUSSUUD EFENDİ was the author of numerous works in Turkish, Arabic and Persian, among these: 1. This Kanun-name, also known as Kanun-name-i cedid or Kanunü'l­muamelat, contains fetvas concerning the Ottoman state and law. Name of copyist and date of copy are unknown; end of the work is missing; on [2b]-[4b] there is a fihrist. The work is followed by a risale entitled Ma 'ruzat-ı Ebussuud (108b—129b).
