He received a good education and finished his studies in the medrese of Edime, obtaining the title of müderris. After having been a teacher in many towns, he became cadi in Edime (1516). Later he became kazasker in Anatolia. İ BN­İ K EMAL , who wrote about 200 works in Turkish, Arabic and Persian in the field of history, language, literature and Islamic sciences, became well-known by his Tevarih-i Al-i Osman, Divan, Yusuf u Züleyha, Resail-i İbn-i Kemal <see N° 731>. His elegy ( mersiye ) written for Sultan Selim I (1512-1520) was also well-known. 165
