II. Duka Tivadar munkálkodása - 4. S. C. Maian levelei Duka Tivadarhoz
40 2. High Cliffe Hotel, Bournemouth. Deer. 8, 1883. My dear Sir your kind letter followed me hither, and I hasten to reply to it. - I remember dear Csoma's dress quite well. 1 never saw him in his best (if he had one) but I always met him in the library of the As. Society, of which I was Secretary during my stay in Calcutta. He wore a jacket, very much like a loose shooting jacket, with outside pockets - of the common blue cotton cloth of India. He wore a waistcoat of figured red, brown black and yellow stuff of Indian manufacture; and trousers of a kind of light brown stuff; cotton stockings and shoes. - He was much weather beaten, and his complexion evidently the worse for his exposure, and the hardship he had to endure. But I did enjoy my visits; he was so kind and genial: he certainly was pleased to find one interested in Tibetan. I gave him my Turkish Dictionary. But he never taught me the Magyar tongue - a most beautiful tongue - the little I know I learnt alone. - I shall greatly value a photograph of Csoma when you kindly send it. Meanwhile, Dear Sir, believe me yours very truly S. C. Malan
