SUMMARIES Vekerdi, L.: Homes, results and problems of a library The Library of the Hungárián Academy of Sciences has one of the major scientific document collections of the country. It contains 960 thousand books, 273 thousand manuscripts, and 21 thousand microfilmes. The history of the Library since 1826 is presented on the occasion of the occupation of the new library building with an area of 6054 m 2, the double of its previous space. In this enlarged space the library intends to function in an improved manner, to serve the cause of science in this country by traditional and advanced methods. Balázs,J. -Fekete,M.-Gregorovicz,A.: Publishing activities of the Library of the Hungárián Academy of Sciences The Library of HAS has been known as a scientifíc workshop and publishing house as well, in addition to its traditional library functions and services. Its publishing duties of three decades have produced various serials like Proceedings, Manuscript Holding Catalogues, Orientál Studies, Budapest Orientál Reprints, Informatics and Science Analysis as well as monographs and periodicals (Research and Development, ECSSID Bulletin, Analecta Linguistica, Hinglnfo). The publishing functions is determined by its academic nature, i.e., its scope is directed toward documentation science, broad information services, history of the Academy and the Library, publication of valuable pieces of our national history. The publishing functions unify the services and the creative activities of the Library of HAS. Braun, T.-Klein,Á. -Kovács,Zs.: From ASCA to BITS. New computerized information services of the Library of the Hungárián Academy of Sciences The Library of HAS introduced new bibliographic information services called ASCA, based on the Science Citation Index (SCI) database of the Institute for Scientifíc Information (ISI, Philadelphia, USA). They cover both SDI services and retrospective retrieval services. Extending the Library's former SDI services, new weekly current awareness services called BIO-MIX have been introduced on the fields of biotechnology, genetics and molecular biology. In addition, unifíed ASCA/ASCATOPICS/BIO-MIX services are available on floppy discs to create personal files for users possessing IBM PC or compatible microcomputers. Finally, the library offers selected topicai bibliographies based on the literature of given subject fields, a service called BITS. 102
