161 SUMMARY LIBRARIES OF NATIONAL ACADEMIES IN THE SOCIALIST COUNTRIES FOR THE INFORMATION SUPPLY OF RESEARCH This paper was originally a lecture prepared for the September 1985 conference of the library directors of national academies in the socialist countries held at Jablonna (Poland). It surveys the spectrum of information services provided by Academy libraries, referring to the services directly provided by them as well as to those which arise through their organizational and co-ordinating duties. The variety of services is determined by the extent of integration or specialization of the information supply apparatus within the different academies. Among the institutions of the integrated type, the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences fills a particular role, as beyond the functions of a scientific library and of a central information institute it also performs the tasks of the Archives of the Academy.
