Moravek Endre, Weger Imre: Abbreviaturae Cyrillicae (A MTAK kiadványai 25. Budapest, 1961)

As to the arranging of the items in alphabetical order, we have followed the methods usually adopted for encyclopaedical and other works of similar character: within an abbreviation we have taken no notice of the accidental word units or punctuation marks, and the whole abbreviation is regarded as one word unit (e.g. и др. to its proper place in the alphabetical order as ИДр. ). Abbreviations written in capitals precede those of the same form, but are written in small letters. We must note however, that we have found a great number of irregularities in the usage of capitalised or small lettered abbreviations, and thus it may happen, that in practice the reader will encounter abbreviations in a form not corresponding to those listed in the dictionary. We wish to emphasize that our collection is of a selective character. Our list can comprise — due to its limited 'number of pages — only the more often used (mainly Russian) abbreviations amounting to many thousands. And it is very much to be regretted that we had to exclude abbreviations (the so-called sigla) of several scientific institutions. We shall be very much obliged to receive any suggestions or additional material to our collection with a view of using them in a revised edition of this work, especially since minor languages were treated less exhaustively in the present edition. In this respect, many thanks are due Mr. Samuel PAPP, the reader of our manuscript, for his kind help which has already enabled us to fill up some gaps. We hope that following our material in Cyrillic, there will be an opportunity for us to publish, within a reasonable time, a dictionary of bibliological abbreviations in Latin letters, and later a list of abbreviations of institutions (name sigla) which can be found in European languages. Thus — as a result of a decade of collecting and processing — we shall be able to publish an international collection of bibliological abbreviations, complete to a certain degree: the „Vocabularium abbreviaturarum bibliothecarii" . 10
