Fráter Jánosné: A Bolyai-gyűjtemény (A MTAK kézirattárának katalógusai 4., 1968)
Summary
SUMMARY The Bolyai Collection in the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences The bequest left in manuscripts of Farkas Bolyai and János Bolyai came to the Library of the Marosvásárhely Presbyterian College, thus the overwhelming majority of the autograph Bolyai papers are to be found up to this date at Marosvásárhely. Hence it follows that the Bolyai Collection of the Manuscripts Department of the Library of the Hungarian Academy is only fragmentary containing, however, quite a number of valuable data for further research on the Bolyais. The material at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences had been collected over 150 years: original manuscripts, copies, documents on the research on the Bolyais. All these materials are preserved in two parts at two sections of the Library's Department of Manuscripts, viz. the Old Archives of the Academy and the so called Bolyai Collection. Besides, some Bolyai documents are to be found in other bequests of the Department of Manuscripts. The material of the Bolyai Collection comes from the following sources: 1. Papers sent by Farkas Bolyai to the Academy. 2. Donations (Péter Szabó, Kálmán Szily etc.) 3. Purchasing (László Bodor, Ödön Székely, Bolyai heirs etc.) The Old Archives of the Academy hold the documents refering to the activities of the Academys activities in the course of its efforts to have acknowledged the scientific merits of the Bolyais all over the world. The present catalogue, a volume of the catalogue series of the Manuscripts Department, is the catalogue of the Bolyai Collection, however, in order to facilitate research work, in the Appendix all the other documents of and on the Bolyais in the possession of the Department are enumerated as well. By reason of contents and form the material of the collection has been structured according to the following viewpoint: I. Manuscripts of Farkas Bolyai and János Bolyai. II. Documents of financial and family character. IH. Papers on the research work on the Bolyais.
