Csapodi Csaba, Gergely Pál (szerk.): Kandidátusi és doktori disszertációk katalógusa I. 1952–1961 (1962)
The Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences intends to publish consecutively catalogues of certain parts of its holdings. 'The catalogue of dissertations for "doctor" and "master" degrees has been completed first, since this quite specific collection can be expected to appeal to the interest of the widest circle of readers. As it is known, the Scientific Attestation Commission sends a copy of the manuscripte of each dissertation handed to it to the Library with the obligation of safekeeping and free access to all interested scientific research workers. It follows from the manuscript character of these typed dissertations and of the obligation to safeguard them against damage and loss, that they cannot be lent out, but their perusal in (the reading room of the Manuscript Division of the Library is steadily increasing. It is hoped that with the publication of the present catalogue the Library of the Academy of Sciences will contribute to the popularization of the important scientific material which is contained in the collection of dissertations. Consequently the present catalogue of our collection does not contain dissertations handed in printed form, since the interested researchers may obtain information about them in a different way /National Bibliography, book reviews, the library subject catalogue/. The material of typewritten dissertations, on the other hand, has not been familiar to wide circles of researchers. On account of this being a catalogue naturally it does not contain the items which are missing from the collection for one or another reason. /For example, we possess only a small portion of the dissertations defended in the Soviet Union./ The scheme of our catalogue follows the line of the Scientific Attestation Commission's classification of dissertations according to definite branches of science. The detailed content of the dissertation may also be found under indices of the UDC system, by this we wanted .to aid mainly the foreign researchers and librarians /documentalists/. The catalogue is supplemented with two lists of namesj the first contains name of authors, the second the name of the opponents. The UDC-numbers were alwayz marked with underlin es. The catalogue was jointly prepared by the staff of the Manuscript and the Old Book Division of the Library. The Jl s t of' December I96I is the last date included. This means that only those dissertations are included in the Catalogue on which scientific degrees were conferred before the above date.
