Bekő Tamás: Az 1956-os forradalom Zalatárnokon

Az 1956-os forradalom Zalatárnokon 379 The Revolution of 1956 in Zalatámok Six decades ago, the events of the Hungarian revolution and war of independence shook the whole world. The story of the events is brief, but glorious. The bravery of the rebels fighting on the barricades is unprecedented, their merits are undying. From the history books we know, the uprising broke out in Budapest and was followed by heavy fights. Soon the revolution spread as wildfire over the country setting county seats and larger cities on fire. Our villages, following the cities’ events, joined the resistance movement without exception. They replaced the representatives of local power, organised sympathy demonstrations and collected food to help people who lived in the capital. This way, not only the people of Budapest, but also the Hungarian population of the countryside had a share in the glory of the historical period of autumn 1956. In the following, we can have a view into the chronicle of Zalatárnok, 1956. The different chapters of the study present the dictatorship in the fifties leading to revolution, the local events of November and December and their consequences, and the period of revenge and sorrow. As authentic sources for processing the events, we used the documents of Zala County Archives, the Archives of the Committee of the Hungarian Socialist Worker’s Party in Zala County, the files of community and district councils and the documents of the State Security Historical Archives. In the end, regardless of party affiliation, a short biography of the active participants of revolution will be presented. Translated by Veronika Nagy
