Jewish families in the village of Páka

The past of Páka is different from the small villages of similar size and population numbers in Zala County, since in the earlier times, in the 18-19th centuries the settlement had a significantly larger population, a country town character, and consequently it had greater influence in the micro region. In the 19th century, the Jewish community played an important role in the Hungarian economy transformation and modernization, and so in the life of Páka, as well.

The study introduces the local Jewish families based especially on the most authentic sources, the registers. The family history information is linked with the

history of the village, primarily through their role in trade and catering inserting it into the individual ages, so the picture can become complete that shows both the local Jewish community and the connecting points with the village’s history.

The study shows the genealogy of the Jewish families in a separate part, it discusses the Jewish customs, traditions and written memories and attempts to explain them. It presents their fitting into the local community or even the conflicts between the Jewish and non-Jewish communities.
