Archeometriai Műhely HA, 259-296. Late Copper Age lithic industry from the environs of Nagykanizsa In the past few years a growing interest can be observed in young lithic industries. One of the possible problems is the scarcity of lithic industries in clear stratigraphical context. Nagykanizsa-Billa is among the sites where considerable lithic material was excavated in authentic situation from closed archaeological units of the Late Copper Age Baden (Pécel) culture. The typological and (macroscopical) raw material analysis of the lithic assemblage is given below. Most apparent features: considerable amount of chipped stone inventory with dominance of Szentgál type Transdanubian radiolarite. Base form of tools is typically flake: no classical blade forms or blade tools were observed. Bifacial flat surface retouch is characteristic of finished artefacts. Dominant tool type is arrow-head points and bifacially worked knife-like implements. Among the polished stone tools, presence of greenschist and serpentinite has been registered. Stone utensils comprise grinders from sandstone and pebbles. Special forms include a cylindrical pierced object made of compact white limestone and sandstone fragments with traces of slag-like melt on their surface. Translated by Katalin T. Biró
