An Industrial Torso (The History of Building of the „Tormaföld Centrálé”)

The management of the Hungarian-American Oil Ltd (MAORT) decided the establishing of a gas electric powergenerating plant (so called „Centrálé”) in 1942. They wanted to satisfy on the one hand the utilizing of the several million cubic meter of unused and freely released gas, on the other hand the requirement of power supply of their plants (Bázakerettye and Lovászi).

The place of the plant was pointed out close to the local (plant) road between Bázakerettye and Lovászi, which was under buliding at that time. In spite of the war difficulties the buildings of the plant were finished

at the end of the second world war: the main buliding, the houses of housing estate and the store-rooms. However the delivered technological goods were not build in. There was an attempt to start the plant in 1948, but it was failed by the nationalization of the MAORT. The successor company formed flats from the controlling building of the plant. The company workers were moved to these and the earlier constructed flats. At present these are private properties, their renovation is in progress and these are utilized for tourism.
