Árpád-kori településnyomok Letenye vidékén 251 Arpádian Age settlement-remains in the surroundings of Letenye (Results of the archaeological survey of 2003 along the motorways M7 and M70) In the Southwest area of Zala County, in the surroundings of Letenye, 26 archaeological sites were surveyed between 1999 and 2003, in connection with the construction of the M7 and M70 motorways (Fig. 1). One third of the surveyed sites, 9 places showed up Arpádian Age finds. In the area of Letenye, at Lapuleveles-dűlő and at Hergyó-földek, parts of Arpádian Age villages — known from written documents also — were revealed. At each of the sites called Dobri-Alsó-Mező, Muraszemenye-Aligvári-mező and Becsehely-Alsóerdő-dűlő a single Arpádian Age pit came to light among prehistoric objects. At further four sites (Muraszemenye-Hosszú-földek and Gályparlag, Letenye-Egyeduta and Korongi-tábla) parts of Arpádian Age settlements were found during the rescue excavations in 2003. The present paper elaborates the material of the latter localities. The outlining of the excavated settlement-features and the comprehensive analysis of the finds follow the presentation of the geographical surroundings of the sites and the description of the objects. Three outdoorovens represented the structures characteristic of Arpádian Age rural settlements at the rescue excavations. The determination of the other objects' function is uncertain. The revealed typical ceramics — providing most of the finds — can be dated to the period between the turn of the 11-12 th centuries and the first half of the 12 th century. The sites, investigated in the vicinity of Letenye, can be identified with the villages Egyeduta and Kórung, known from written sources. The features in Muraszemenye, formed of few objects can be defined as the traces of such village-initiatives, populated only by a couple of serfs, that hadn't developed into a village. Written documents preserved the names of several settlements of this kind in the surroundings of Muraszemenye. Translated by Judit Kvassay
