Megyeri Anna: A zalaegerszegi zsinagóga [ma hangverseny- és kiállítóterem] építéstörténete

244 Megyeri Anna gue architecture and the inner paintings and the tinworks represented the skilled work of the craftsmen of Zalaegerszeg. In 1944 the majority of the Jewish population of Zalaegerszeg were taken to concentration camps from which only a few returned. The Synagogue became unused and in 1960 it became the property of the Hungarian Government and was maintained by the Town Council. The building was used as a storage space, and its condition was deteriorating gradually. In 1976 it was decided that in order to be able to maintain the Synagogue it has to be assigned to a new function. In 1983 according to the plans of architect Gyula Petényi the reconstruction of the Synagogue with the preservation of the inner building structure was finished.
