before constructing the choir and the burial chamber of the Romanesque church. As far as the western wall of building Nr 2 is concerned, there is only one more wall attached to it on the north-western corner. The modern age cemetery set limits to further excavations. Some parts of the northern wall of building Nr 1 have been used to the construction of the Romanesque church. The rest of the walls situated in the choir, in the nave and in front of the northern wall of the church have been deeply pulled down. The walls have been entirely demolished within the area of the later burial chamber. The entrance hall was added to the south front of the church building. A stairway led from the entrance hall to the burial chamber next to the choir. Most of the carved stone-pieces were excavated from the rubble above and next to the church and the entrance hall. (See Figures 81-83.) The infant humerus found in the south-western corner of the church and the numerous tiny brownbluish single and double beads and hair-rings (some of them with S-endings) excavated from the loose soil next to the walls indicate that the site must have been a burial-ground before the construction of the Romanesque church. Also the bones found in the southwestern part of the church, next to the southern wall of the nave might have been the remains of a previous tomb. (The bones have been gathered consequently in the northern side of the wall and the former tomb.) The nave was used for burials even in the 16th century. Coins from tomb Nr. 12 were minted under the period of Emperor Sigismond of Luxemburg's and Emperor Maximilian 1 of Habsburg's reign. 1 Az ásatás vezetője Palágyi Sylvia, szakmai tanácsadó Éri István, munkatárs 1967-ben Dax Margit, Berta István volt. A one-room (Nr. l/b) and a two-rooms house (a dwelling house) (Nr. l/c 1-2) are the results of constructions of the age of the Árpáds. (See Figure 25). The northern section of the churchyard wall crossed building Nr. 2 of the Roman age and building Nr l/b-c of the age of the Árpáds. Both must have been pulled down before the construction of the Romanesque church. Building Nr. 4 was constructed simultaneously with the western section of the wall around the cemetery. The walls of the first room in building Nr. 4 were attached to the walls of the churchyard. House Nr. 2 of the two houses situated in the southern direction of the southern section of the wall around the cemetery must have been built consequently to the churchyardwall. Dating of building Nr. 3 is hindered by several circumstances, such as its walls lay deeper than of building Nr. 2, and also compassed in a slightly different direction than building Nr 2 and the wall around the cemetery; furthermore it laid in front of doorstep Nr. 1 of the churchyard-wall. Building Nr. i/attached to the churchyard-wall was of the latest built. Its walls were constructed in various qualities. A porch may have been staying before the eastern front of the building. Pulled down walls both of the Roman and of the Árpáds age have been discovered under the building (Nr. l/b-d). According to the graves excavated within the area of house Nr. l/a, and before and under the gate of the churchyard (graves Nr 29 and 26-27), the cemetery used prior to the erection of the churchyard must have been larger. 15 MRT 2. 29., 3/3. lh.; Helyszínrajz: Sági Károly 1952es jelentésében: LDM Régészeti Adattár 67/14.
