During the pilot excavation of the year 2004 the following archeological sites were found: the eastern edge of a cemetery belonging to a ll th-century church, to the east of this, a cemetery dated back to the Árpád-period before the building of the church, two cottages that can be separated well, and the remains of a cellar that stands alone in its present state. Cottage number 1 in the North was in east-west direction, it consisted of 2 rooms and a cellar on its east side. We could only excavate one room of cottage number 2 as the rest of the house was outside the excavation area. At the east end of cottage number 1 we found a cellar dated back to an earlier time than both cottages, which is cut by cottage number one. The way of building the walls and the material they used differs in the case of the cottages, as they used basalt in cottage number 2, while cottage number 1 is built from limestone alone. The walls of cottage number 1 were built in a more regular way. About the superstructure we can only say something sure in the case of cottage number 1 as the big quantity of stone ruins shows that it was at least partly built from stone. We did not find stone ruins at cottage number 2, on the stone base there were beam-framed walls. Cottage number 1 had a large cellar that can be the sign RAINER 1997 = RAINER P.: Veszprém Megye Árpád-kori és késő középkori falusi lakóházai. The filling in of the early cellar shows that the pantry or store-room above it was burnt and collapsed when the cottage was ruined. It was more likely to have been a pantry as we found a lot of pieces of broken pottery. We found no trace of a house belonging to the cellar. If there was a house it could have been built towards north and its ruins must have been demolished completely when they were building the cellar of cottage number 1. The excavated stone walls held together by reddish-yellow mortar can be dated back to late medieval times to the 16 th-17 th centuries, they were built after the early cemetery was closed. Unfortunately there are no written documents abot the cottages, perhaps they belonged to the church. Details about the buildings like their relationship, exact size and function have to be clarified by further excavations. The early Árpád-period cemetery could have been in northern-west southtern-east direction. Cottage number 1 tampered with lots of graves. There were no graves under cottage number 2. Excavations are going to be continued in 2006.We hope that these will result in more information about the size and age of the early cemetery and also about the structure of the medieval houses.
