The environs on the Szentgál-Tűzköveshegy ('Flintstone Mountain') radiolarite source region was surrounded by, during the Lengyel III period, a ring of settlements specialised in stone working (BIRÓ-REGENYE 1991). One of these sites, Szentgál-Füzikút was surveyed and later excavated during our research on the raw material source region. The excavations performed between 1986 and 1988 opened up a settlement of the Lengyel culture (phase III) with abundant lithic industry. Though the lithics found in situ (around 1000 items) seem to represent only a part of the former assemblage due to the deterioration of the archaeological units by modern agricultural activity, the lithic assemblage is the largest one published from this period.
