ZOLTÁN TÖRÖCSIK THE ACTIVITY OF THE VESZPRÉM COUNTY MUSEUM DIRECTORY IN THE YEAR 1981 The County Museum Directory, in accordance with the Cultural Section of the Execution Committee of the County Council put into force in 1st October 1980 a new organization and operation by-law, better suited to the character of the institution network and better utilizing the existing possibilities in which it has aimed at decentralization. Simultaneously, the essential documents of the institution were compiled including regulations, labour rules, materials concerning economic and personnel work, the project of transition to 5-day working week etc. The economic activity of the museum organization was characterized by accelerated race directed toward development, reconstruction and the improvement of objective conditions, in spite of the „traditional" difficulties. With the construction works of the store base at Felsőors, however, the lack of executing capacity, partly felt in the realization of the garden with ancient ruins of Roman times at Baláca-puszta. The complete fulfilment of professional- and cultural political functions was made possible by the financial support from different instances, nevertheless our editing activity is strongly restricted by the basic budgetary directives. As far as this point is concerned, it would be desirable to carry out some changes, so much so that in the joint instructions No 201/1981 (M. K. 4.) MM— MTA, the Bakony Museum of Veszprém and the Museum of Natural Sciences of Zirc were appointed as scientific and research centers what could make possible editing activities on larger scales. Personal conditions improved during the year, and many of our workers were rewarded on the occasion of Museum and Monuments Month. Two people of the institution departed including Istvánffyné Mária Csiby, museologist and Vincéné Kántás, caretaker. In connection with our scientific and professional activities, strictly speaking, with the registration functions, it should be mentioned first that tha Bakony Museum of Veszprém performed full revision of the main stock of the museum. The museologists of the Archedlogical Section continued their earlier initiated work including the discovering of the villa farm of the Roman age, archeological and architectural historical explorations related to the restorations of historic houses of Veszprém, including the exploration of the Gizella Chapel of XII —XIII centuries and the discovery of the late Avar age cemetery at Vörös October road, Veszprém. A complex folkloristic and historic study of Káli basin arising great interest, organized by the Folklore Department, is now under way. In this scientific program also the members of the Historic Section participate, who, apart from this, carried on systematic gathering of objects and theoretical processing. The popular cultural activity of the Bakony Museum of Veszprém was performed first of all through numerous exhibitions and in the most appropriate and successfull forms, including the Circle of Museum Friends scientific an research movement, Egry Friendly Circle, lectures delivered in art galleries, guided tours, Country Exploration Camps of the County, Socialist Brigade Days etc. The Pápa Museum of Local Histroy continued the excavation works of the archaic earthwork in the Bakony mountains, coordinated the explorations of local history and folklore in the district and, moreover, organized six exhibitions. The Bakony Museum of Natural Sciences carried on in the period in question the systematic Bakony exploration begun over 10 years ago which encompasses the comprehensive, study of the flora and fauna of the mountain area. In the institution this year began the anthropological investigation of the skeletal finds of the cemetery of Roman age at Tác-Gorsium and that of the cemetery of the Avar age at Zalakomár. A significant activity was performed by the workers of the museum in the field of popular culture as well, including the Búvár Club, knowledge disseminating lectures, travelling exhibitions etc. In the following, the annual growth of the collection of the museum organization is presented on the basis of number data: Bakony Museum in Veszprém: archeology: about 10,000 items, folklore: 240 items, modern times: 914 items, history of literature: 40 items, numismatics: 14 items.
