COLLEGE LIBRARY AND SPECIAL COLLECTIONS OF PÁPA The author gives a historical report on the Library of the Reformed College at Pápa, founded in 1531. The survey includes the earliest traces and follows them through until 1970. It tells about the early acquisitions via donations, and how the library holdings have grown by later planned acquisitons, and how it has become one of the most important libraries in the country by the turn of the last century. Since religious discriminations have made the life of the school highly disturbed from the middle of the 17th century, including three decades of exile, we can only talk about a library in the modern sense since the 1970 reorganization. This elevated the schol again to college level. The study describes the special collections within the library. One of the most valuable of these is the old coin and numismatic collection. The so called Papensia collection includes writings and books by famous students of the school, like Mór Jókai, Sándor Petó'fi from all over the world. The baron Baldácsy etching collection was donated to the school during the second half of the 19th century. This contains etchings by Dürer and Rembrandt also. The survey gives an account of the rarities of the library, the life-work of excellent librarians, and the catalogues as well.
