MÁRKÓ—SZENTGÁL—CSEHBÁNYA—HÁRSKÚT The investigation was started in 1962 as a private enterprise, but since 1967 the author continued his research within the programme: ,,The Nature Landscape of the Bakony Mountains". The area of some 70 square kilometres is mainly mountainous and hilly in character, according to JENÖ PAPP's zoogeographical division it lies on the borderline of the North and South Bakony Mts. with a proportion of 4:1. From the northern parts of the South Bakony Mts. the Szentgál Mt. belongs to this complex as does the Hajags' mass from the North Bakony Mts. West of the Central Hajag Mts. to Csehbánya, the region is hilly and is under agricultural cultivation. Likewise the majority of the Séd-valley separating the North and South Bakony Mts. is an agricultural ground. The higher vegetation comprises mainly beech which generally has a close stand, especially on the Hajags' mass. Of course, other species of trees also occur, in the wet valleys even alder groves are present. During the past ten years (excluding the genus Eupithecia from the Geometridae family and the Aegeridae family) this area yielded 671 butterfly species. Some two-thirds of the material counting approximately 12,000 specimens has already been identified. The majority of the collected material is placed in the collection of the Bakony Natural History Museum. Zirc, while a smaller proportion is in the author's private collection. The hereunder listed interesting species are discussed in the main text in more detail: Argynnis (Brenthis) hecate ESP., Argynnis (Pandoriana) pandora SCHIFF..
