Gulyás Bence: Gondolatok a tiszántúli kora avar kori népesség eredetéről
Bence Gulyás SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF THE POPULATION IN EASTERN HUNGARY (TISZÁNTÚL REGION) IN THE EARLY AVAR PERIOD In my article I examine the possible origin of the population that settled east to the Tisza river during the early avar period. This group can be characterized by its certain funeral custom (e. g. NE-SW, E-W orientation, various types of niche graves, horse-, cattle, sheep skin burials, hand made vessel put next to the skull). With these features, this population is linked to the so- called Sivashovka-horizon, which refers to the nomads north to the Black Sea during the 6-7,h centuries. These two population existed synchronously, therefore they might have common ancestors. The earlier paralels of their funeral customs can be found among the Hun graves from the second half of 5th and early 6th centuries (the so-called Pokrovsk and Shipovo groups). From the recent results of the Russian archaeologist, we have already known some sites, where we can observe the transition of the material culture from the late Hun period to the Sivashovka period. In the second part of my article I introduce three sites (Liventsovskij, Eastern Malay and Tsarev) from this group. 112
