the history of the everyday and spiritual life of the given community, the viability of culture, and the ability to connect historic past and present reality are reflected. The esteem of a museum institution is in its ability to link past and present, and form its own historic traditions usable for the present and the future. This ability is highlighted in the last topic called 'Tradition and heritage'. We aimed to show in what way the exhibited objects transmit cultural traditions to outside of the museum walls, in what ways they make us think further and recall individual memories and experience in each of us. The selected works of art are group of objects representing the entire collection of the museum and have been selected by given aspects. Viewers may be familiar with quite a few of them, but there are still many others that have never been exhibited to the public. Another criteria of the selection was to realise the local characters of major exhibitions in the county and to refer to periods and persons with who ruins, museums or outdoor village museums were operated. This publication is intended to provide the Reader with a deep introduction to our exhibition, and is a first edition of the exhibit catalogues of high volumes. It was written to speak to everybody, to pay a tribute of respect to the collecting and donating ancestors, to give the Reader experience and knowledge, and to give hope and encourage those who will enrich the museum in the future. Let it be a source for scientific research, and everyday teaching aid for all teachers as well. Be aware that our museum cultural values representing the history of a millennium of our closer homeland are immense. They are a part of the history of our country and active creators in the everyday life of the Hungarian nation and the peoples used to live here. It is must to put this value a part of the public wealth. This is the very aim we try to achieve with the centennial exhibition called 'Get on to the object' on the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Laczkó Dezső Museum, and with the booklet compiling the content of the exhibition.
