Történelmi személyiségek 1809-ben - VLADIMIR BRNARDIC: A híresebb fiú híres apja
ACTA MU SEI PAPENSIS PÁPAI MÚZEUMI ÉRTESÍTŐ 11 - 2006 VLADIMIR BRNARDIC FAMOUS FATHER OF MORE FAMOUS SON The historical personality of Croatian Ban Joseph Jellachich is well known. His person is in many song and immortalized in many paintings and also in famous Fernkorn's monument on Jellachich square in the middle of the Zagreb. The words of the famous song "Stand up Ban..." were always sing in the hard times of Croatian hisory. The story about Franjo Jellachich is perhaps best to start here, in Croatian historical museum in Zagreb's old city where beside great collection of ban Josip Jellachich there is much smaller one of his fathers Franjo. Except two portraits and one miniature on which we know his face the part of his belongings came to museum. In 1990's a bundle of documents came into Croatian Historical Museum as a gift of family Jacomini from Graz owing to efforts of former director Madam Jasna Tomicic. The documents were about family Jellachich that were through female part heirs of Anton count Jellachich, one of the brothers of Croatian Ban Josip Jellachich. Comparing to the inheritance of the Ban Josip Jellachich that is also kept in museum this one is rather small. This are mainly documents, about a hundred of them, not even originals but much more transcripts and concepts. From them it is visible his career as a military officer in 1 st Banal Border (Grenz) Regiment and his part in actions on Military border against Turks and in the war against France at the end of 18 century. It is interesting that the signatures and seals of the other officers confirmed a credibility of these documents. All together this collection is not very big but it is valuable and interesting because it give as many interesting not well known facts about FML Franz Jellachich especially because his glory is somehow shadowed with the glory of his son, Ban Josip Jellachich. Franjo Jellachich was born in Petrinja in 1746 in the family of nobleman and Grenz officer, captain Antun Jellachich de Buzim and his wife Barbara born Grosic. When he was 17 years old he had joined as a cadet a 1st Banal Grenz Infantry Regiment. He had served in Military Border, step up in military hierarchy and few times proved himself in the fights with the Turks. In the last Turkish war in 18th century with his regiment Jellachich has break into Turkish Croatia and had bravely defended chardak Ljubina in May 1790 against overwhelming Turks. The war with the Turks was not over when new big struggle with revolutionary France broke out, the struggle that will last with few breaks for almost two decade.
