Vig Károly: Zoological Research in Western Hungary. A history (Szombathely, 2003)

65 PHYLUM ACANTHOCEPHALA (ACANTHOCEPHALIDS) CLASS ARCHIACANTHOCEPHALA A Hungarian muskrat (Ondatra zibethicus) caught by Lake Fertő contained a single immature specimen of a giant thornyheaded worm of swine (Macracanthorhynchus hirudinaceus —SEY 1965a). The same species was later found in wild boar (Sus scrofa). Faunistic investigations of the FertőHanság National Park have managed to reveal the presence of three acanthocephalid species parasitic on mammals: Centrorhynchus sp., Moniliformis moniliformis and Macracanthorhynchus hirudinaceus (GUBÁNYI et al. 2002d).
