222 Phylum Vertebrata SCHÖNBAUER. 104 This was followed by similar lists compiled by GEORG ANDREAS KORNHUBER, 105 GYULA MADARÁSZ 106 and ISTVÁN CHERNÉL. 107 A list of all the birds so far known in the country, along with a short description of their life history, occurrence data and the names of those reporting them, was compiled for the 2nd International Ornithological Congress in 1891 (FRIVALDSZKY 1981). The first official register of names from the Hungarian Ornithological Centre was compiled by ISTVÁN CHERNÉL. 108 Twenty years later, CHERNÉL is credited as the author of the Nomendator, which by that time was based on detailed researches. 109 The rapid increase in the volume of knowledge about Hungarian bird-life and the adoption of the internationally accepted HARTERT system of taxonomy made a new list necessary, which was compiled by JAKAB SCHENK (1938a), as were the addenda and corrections (VÖNÖCZKY-SCHENK 1942). In 1960, ANDRÁS KEVE compiled a register of bird species in Hungary based on the WETMORE system of taxonomy (KEVE 1960b). At the end of 1975, a new register with ten extra species was compiled, but it did not appear until 1984. 110 The most recent Nomendator appeared in 1998. 111 LÁSZLÓ HARASZTHY (1998) edited a book describing all the birds whose occurrence in the country is known. Similar subject-matter was contained in an earlier compilation by TSCHUSI zu SCHMIDHOFFEN and EUGEN F. HOMEYER(1886). The register of bird fauna for neighbouring Austria was compiled by KURT BAUER and GERTH ROKITANSKY (1951), since when several additions have been published.
