Vig Károly: Zoological Research in Western Hungary. A history (Szombathely, 2003)

Phylum Arthropoda 153 banidae), Exodontha dubia (Stratiomyidae), Bombylius semifuscus (Bombyliidae), Sicus nigritarsis (Conopidae), and Winthemia jacentkowskyi (Tachinidae — TÓTH 1995a). The same author dealt with Őrség Syrphidae material in a separate study (TÓTH 1995b). He demonstrated the occurrence of 194 species, of which five proved to be new to the Hungarian fauna: Merodon cinereus, Neocnemodon brevidens, Platycheirus perpallidus, Sphegina latifrons and Tropidia fasciata. The Pseudopomyzidae family proved new to Hungary. One representative, also new to the fauna, was Pseudopomyza atrimana caught at the Lugosi forester's house near Őriszentpéter (the location actually belongs to Ispánk) by LÁSZLÓ PAPP on August 2, 1980 (PAPP 1998). A worthy milestone in faunistic research into the Diptera in Hungary and the Carpathian Basin was the appearance of the Checklist of the Diptera of Hungary (PAPP 2001C). This vast publication gives a critical review of the country's Diptera fauna. At the same time, a project styled Large blank spots in the Diptera fauna of Hungary was started, with the cooperation of several foreign experts, to continue the diptero-faunistic studies and examinations and to correct and amplify the checklist. Within a couple of years, further research has indeed brought to light several hundred new Diptera species new to the Hungarian fauna. The list that follows gives the new species to Hungary demonstrated in the West Hungarian border region under the two projects. 70 Species from the Kőszeg Hills shown to be new to Hungary or providing confirmation of occurrence in Hungary: Macrocera anglica, M. crassicornis, M. fastuosa, Bicellaria austriaca, Chelifera angusta, Palloptera bimaculata (PAPP 2002a); Anevrina thoracica, Conicera dauci, Phora atra (PAPP 2002b); Euphylidorea phaeostigma, Neolimnomyia batava, Phylidorea fulvonervosa, Pseudolimnophila sepium, Ellipteroides limbatus, Molophilus médius, Tasiocera jenkinsoni, Libnotes ladogensis (STARY 2001); Trichocera saltator (KRZEMINSKA 2001); Mycetobia gemella, Symmerus annulatus, Macrocera vittata (PAPP 2001a); Tetanura pallidiventris, Minettia austriaca, Toxoneura laetabilis, Phytomyza marginella, Acanthocnema nigrimana, Piezura graminicola (PAPP 2001b); Pipunculus spinipes, P. thomsoni (FÖLDVÁRI and KOZÁNEK 2001); Leucophora sericea (DARVAS et al. 2001); Phthinia mira, Mycetophilia ocellus, M. pumila, M. stolida, Phronia forcipata, Anatella longisetosa, Brachypeza bisignata, Brevicornu sericoma, Exechiopsis magnicauda, E. leptura (SEVCÍK and PAPP 2001); Boletina nitida, В. plana, В. rejecta, Trichonota apicalis, T. fusca, T. hungarica, Cordyla murina, Exechia bicincta, E. seriata (SEVCÍK and PAPP 2002). Species from the Fertő-Hanság National Park: Crossopalpus abditus (PAPP 2002a); Stilpon nubilus, Chelipoda vocatoria (PAPP and FÖLDVÁRI 2000): Leucophora unistriata (DARVAS et al. 2001). Species from the Sopron Hills and Sopron district: Tephritis vespertina (MERZ 2000b); Pedicia littoralis (STARY 2001); Phytobia mallochi (PAPP 2001b); Delia diluta, D. echinata, Eustalomyia histrio, Hydrophoria 70 The 1956 fire destroyed almost all the Diptera collection at the Hungarian Natural History Museum, including the voucher specimens for the occurrence in Hungary of many species. No distinction is drawn here between the species shown to be new during present-day examinations and those whose occurrence in Hungary has already been published at home or abroad, or whose occurrence is likely, but the voucher specimen is missing.
