The brief description of the archaeological materials indicates that the find collections belonging to the Lengyel culture are divided into two chronological periods: into the 2nd and 3rd phases of the Lengyel culture. Hungarian archaeologists have been agreeing for already nearly twenty years to divide the assemblages of the Lengyel culture in Hungary into three chronological periods 30 . The potteries' white paintings seemed to be the most general characteristic of the 2nd phase in South-Transdanubia, therefore the finds of the 2nd phase have been separated according to this characteristic feature. However, it was also soon observed that there are significant regional differences in the Hungarian find collections within the large unit of the Lengyel culture, and according to these differences we can speak about several zones (Western, Middle, Eastern groups). The area of County Vas belongs to the Western group, so the characteristic features and chronological phases of the South-Transdanubian Lengyel culture have been found different in our area.
