Savaria a Vas megyei Múzeumok Értesítője, 30 (2006) literature is not easily available. Hopefully, the descriptive part of the paper will complement the detailed description of the rest of the find material from the pit with which it is associated creating a more rounded view of the preserved material culture at this particular Proto-Lengyel village. Secondly, this paper marks an attempt to show how even non-ornamental, utilitarian objects reflect social rules of manufacture, behavior and human interactions. Everyday objects can be thought of as props in activities like hide-processing or basketmaking, played out on the stage of mundane life. Strict adherence to manufacturing rules and the ways these objects become associated with individuals and groups are another form of social glue that hold society together. Attention to details of manufacture and intensity of use wear are critical to create a fuller picture of life in prehistoric times. Bone tools, almost always ignored in archaeological analyses in Hungary, deserve more rigorous detailed attention. As more bone tool assemblages are published properly a picture should begin to emerge of the way these objects were employed both as tools in crafts and ways of expressing different kinds of social identity in ancient times.
