SAVARIA AVAS MEGYEI MÚZEUMOK ÉRTESÍTŐJE, 29 Szombathely, 2005 MIKROSZKÓPOS ANYAGVIZSGÁLATOK JELENTŐSÉGE EGY KÉSŐ RÓMAI TŰKARC-DÍSZES POHÁR ESETÉBEN FERENCZ Eszter Savaria Múzeum, Restaurátor Osztály H-9700 Szombathely, Kisfaludy S. utca 9., Hungary E-mail: savmuz@axelero.hu THE IMPORTANCE OF MICROSCOPE EXAMINATIONS OF MATERIAL IN THE CASE OF A LATE ROMAN CUP WITH PIN-SCRATCHED DECORATION The article seeks to underline the importance of microscope examinations of material in restoration work, in relation to the restoration of a late Roman glass cup with vertical walls, a blown form, and pin-scratched decoration. The cup was found in August 2001 in a fragmented, incomplete state, with crumbled material on its surface, along with its earth core, in situ in Grave 200/B at the Szent Márton út cemetery excavation. Microscope examinations allowed an accurate technical and decoration description to be made of the object, along with the apparent ageing phases. In the light of these, a change had to be made in the selected technique of restoration. During cleaning, the deposited fatty, polarized contamination was first removed with surface-active material, followed by the contamination of carbonate origin, by chemical means. With the crumbled materials, packing with low-density oxidizing material followed by organic acid material could be used, but only locally. The pieces of glass were rinsed with alcohol after each wet cleansing process. The cleaned fragments were fitted together in a dry state with gluing strips. The gluing material was epoxy resin was dribbled onto the breakage surfaces. The additions were fabricated with coloured epoxy resin. Finally, the prepared surfaces were scoured and polished to a silk shine. BEVEZETÉS A restaurálás jelentős szemléletváltáson ment keresztül az elmúlt években Magyarországon is. A kezünkbe kerülő tárgyak sok mindent elárulnak magukról, egykori környezetükről, használóikról, készítőikről. Ehhez a modern technika nyújt segítséget. Egyre nagyobb szerep jut a különböző mikroszkópos és műszeres anyagvizsgálatoknak. Az így kapott eredmények segítségével ma már módosultak a restaurálás egyes munkafolyamatai, átértékelődtek a korábban jónak ítélt beavatkozási eljárások, nagyobb hangsúly került 279
