Radchenko, G. Alexander: The ant fauna of Őrség, Western Hungary (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

RADCHENKO, G. A. : The ant fauna of Őrség (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) Lasius distinguendus Emery, 1916 — Apátistvánfalva: Zsida-patak völgye [5], 30.06.1994, AR (21); Orfalu [5], 18.06.1994, AR (27). — Inhabits principally meadows, rarely forests, it nests in the soil. Distribution: Transpalaearctic species, rather rare. New for the Hungarian fauna. Lasius fuliginosus (Latreille, 1798) — Apátistvánfalva: Zsida-patak völgye [1], 17.06.1994, AR (21); Felsőszölnök: Hampó-völgy [1], 17.06.1994, AR (14); Felsőszölnök: Török-patak völgye [1], 24.06.1994, AR (23); Konorfa, Lugos-patak völgye [1], 19.06.1994, AR (18); Orfalu [1], 18.06.1994, AR (16); Szakonyfalu: Grajka-patak völgye [1], 24.06.1994, AR (19); Szalafo [1], 15.06.1994, 30.06.1994, AR (38). — Inhabits previously deciduous, rarely mixed forests, builds "cardboard" nests in hollows of trees. Distribution: Amphipalaearctic species: Europe, Caucasus, Far East. RESULTS On the comparatively small territory of Őrség 56 ant species were found. This richness is consequence of the divers landscape and, what is very important, of biotopes poorly touched by human activity. The ant fauna is not so rich but rather diverse from ecological and zoogeographical points of view. The majority of species are connected with forest ecosystems, however, more detailed consideration of species, clears the essential differences in their distribution (Fig.l., Fig. 2.).
