RADCHENKO 1 The ant fauna of Őrség, Western Hungary (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) — A list of 56 ant species recorded from Őrség and adjacent territories is given. 5 species are new to the Hungarian fauna. INTRODUCTION The first large work on ant fauna of Hungary was a monograph by Edit SOMFAI (SOMFAI, 1959). Seventy three authentic known ant species were mentioned in it from Hungary, as well as series of forms which, in opinion of author, could be find. Till now this work is strong obsolete and, unfortunately, abounds many discrepancies. Subsequently the data on ant fauna of Hungary were specified and complemented by László GALLÉ (GALLÉ, 1966, 1967, 1978, 1981, 1986; GALLÉ and SZŐNY, 1988). Recently eighty ant species are known for the Hungary fauna; 5 new species are presented in this paper. The article presents a study of ant fauna of őrség Landscape Conservation Area (Western Hungary) that has not been investigated yet in myrmecological relation. The material was collected during the period from 14 June up to July 6, 1994. More than 10.000 specimens were collected and the material include 56 species. I would like to express my deepest thanks to Csaba THURÓCZY and Károly VÍG, organizers of the őrség expedition. 1 Institute of National Zoology, Ukrainian Academy of Sciences Bogdan Khmelnitskiy st. 15., U-252601 Kiev, Ukraine Vig, K.
