Two species, Hippodamia septemmaculata (De Geer, 1775) (Coccinellidae) and Xyletinus vaederoeensis Lundblad, 1949 (Anobiidae), are reported from Hungary for the first time. With 8 figures. INTRODUCTION The Őrség is situated in the westernmost part of Hungary. From coleopterological point of view, this is one of the most exciting regions of Hungary but, as compared to the central parts of the country, it is much less investigated. The bulk of the beetle material available for study is a result of a faunistic exploration organized by the late Ernő HORVÁTH (director of the Savaria Museum, Szombathely) and performed by amateur coleopterists in the late 1970s and the early 1980s. The major part of this material is deposited in the Savaria Museum, the minor part is found in the Hungarian Natural History Museum and in private collections. The staff of the Savaria Museum continued the collectings in the early 1990s. Additional material (now deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum) comes from collectings of various individuals during random visits to the area. This paper is devoted to an arbitrary assortment of 27 beetle families. These families include those which I am familiar with and which had no other specialist involved in this project. It should be noted, however, that material of important families related to those dealt with here remained unidentified (e.g. Nitidulidae, Latridiidae, Cryptophagidae). This is because of limitations of time, experts and financial possibilities. The identification of the whole Hungarian museum material of many families treated below is still in progress, so our knowledge on the distribution and abundance of species in Hungary is far from complete. No comprehensive study on the Őrség material of these families has been made so far. Only scattered data are found in the literature, mainly in the papers of HORVATOVICH (1979, 1980, 1981, 1982).
