1 The Zygaenidae fauna of Hungary IX. The Zygaenidae fauna of Western Hungary (Lepidoptera: Zygaenidae) — A checklist and biological data of the Zygaenidae fauna of Western Hungary are presented, together with the distribution of each species. All species are briefly redescribed mentioning the main characteristic features if the imagines. The latest version of the checklist of the Zygaenidae species is compiled with new and updated information. A checklist of foodplants is also given. It is based on own collection data and verified references. According to the new Hungarian data, it is possible, that J. (T.) notata is bivoltine in the Pannon region. The habitats of all the species are described. Figures of the genitalia and wing pattern of several species which are difficult to determine are given. In accordance with the Hungarian nature protection law, the following species are protected: Adscita geryon, Zygaena laeta and Zygaena fausta. Review of the West Hungarian Borderland: valleys, foothills, medium-height mountains with broad ridges, 150-883 m. Eroded hills in the subalpin regions on brown loess and and pseudogleyeus soils with mosaics of forests mixed with Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris) partly used for agriculture, as well as eroded hills (250-350 m) with lessivated brown forest soil on brown loess; partly used for agriculture. Natural vegetation: mainly Illyrian oak-hornbeam as well as Illyrian beech forests and oak forest mixed with Scotch pine. With 33 figures.
