Gábor Barna: A Cemetery Chapel of Tápé as a Sacred Storeroom The cemetery chapel of Tápé is a memorial of the great plagues of the 18

th century. It was renovated after the great flood of 1879. It has been a second centre of the religious life of the village. The chapel was established by the famous clergyman of Tápé, István Jakó Miklós. The cemetery around the chapel is no longer in use, but many people visit it. The furniture of the chapel is a heritage of different ages, well illustrating the religious life of the period between 1881 and 1980. There was a time when the chapel and the cemetery were used as a place of pilgrimage. The objects accumulated in the chapel illustrate the process how the chapel has gradually become a "sacred museum." The study deals with a phase of this process.
