NÉPRAJZ - Molnár Sándor: Út a restaurált Vay-kastélyig
Sándor Molnár: Road to the Restored Vay Castle The decade-long story of the restoration of the Vay Castle at Vaja started with archeological explorations. The explorations showed that the castle had been built in three phases. Unfortunately, the alterations carried out in romantic style in the 1860s deprived the building of its original Renaissance appearance. The renovation was also performed in several stages. It started in 1997, and the bulk of the work was performed in 1999-2000. The stone coat of arms on the northern facade of the tower was replaced with a replica, and the mural on the second floor, originally painted in 1896, was fully restored. The second major phase of reconstruction began in the spring of 2001 with the completion of the renovation of the main building and the southern tower. In December 2003, visitors found the castle in its original splendour, and the beautiful park around it was also rehabilitated.
