Csaba Benedek: Some Additions to the Rural Architecture of Cserépfalu, with Special Attention to Immigrants Cserépfalu is a small village found in the valley of Mór Creek, at the foot of the Bükk Mountains, 17 km north of Mezőkövesd in Borsod County. The village consists of 43O detached houses, out of which 115 are used as weekend cottages by people who are not local inhabitants. The new settlers bought themselves houses to be converted into weekend cottages at the Berezdalja area, but today the weekend cottages are scattered around the entire village. Stone used to be the exclusive building material at Cserépfalu. Until the 1950s the roofs were thatched or shingled, but today tile is used. Local people have converted, modernized the old farmhouses, and today they tend to dispense with the old equipment and furniture that remind them of the time of poverty and an old-fashioned way of life. The new owners, on the other hand, collect such furniture and other objects, and use them as decoration in their houses.
