NÉPRAJZ - Veres Gábor: A települések hagyományos képe és szerkezete Heves megyében
In the southern, flat areas of the county we find the Plains type of the divided settlements. At these villages, the group of dwelling houses were surrounded by agricultural facilities, stables and gardens, like at Adács, Átány and Karácsond. The agricultural buildings were sometimes located in one group next to the dwelling quarters, like at Demjén, Pély and Poroszló. During the 19 th century, the villages became larger, and stretched to the areas that had formerly been used exclusively for agricultural purposes. Several of the villages of the county were fully or partially destroyed during the Turkish occupation. In the 17 th and 18 th centuries, German and Slovakian settlers were invited there to replace the population. The new settlers did not occupy exactly the same location of the destroyed villages at Aldebrő, Nagytálya and Márkáz. There were also settlements, including Domoszló, Kisnána and Kompolt, where the continuity of the original settlement was preserved.
