Katalin Almássy: New data on the Celto-Dacian relationship in the Upper Tisza Region

Considering that this is clearly a Roman import, another possible place of origin is Dacia. However, I have not found any reference in the literature on province Dacia to the early appearance and spread of the Rädchenverzierung decoration. Judging from this, Pannonian origin is more likely, although on the basis of the earlier geographical connections of the region (for example the unified LTC horizon from the valley of Ér as far as the Tisza) the Dacian direction would be more logical. The site is situated on the great salt road, so foreign influences and imported goods could arrive from both directions. As to the date of the decoration, let me mention one more fact. É. Bonis presented a piece from the material of house 1 of the Late Celtic - Early Roman settlement of Tabán and dated it to the second half of the 1 st c. A.D. (BONIS 1969, 233). So, we will have to wait to determine the final answer. But I would like to stress once more that there are no other similar fragments on the well-researched left bank of the Tisza. To summarise the assumptions made above, we cannot exclude the existence of a Celtic population at the Kállósemjén settlement that continued to live there at least up to the 1 st c. A.D. and possibly until a later period. In the course of Dacian campaigns, they could have used the salt road. Later, small groups and merchants arriving on this road could have brought the Roman imported goods that reached the population of this settlement. My conclusions are hypothetical because of the small size of the excavated territory and the insignificant amount of the find material. Nevertheless, I consider it important to share them, since they draw attention to the study of a dark age, the interpretation of which is fraught with difficulties.
