Helytörténet - Kelemen Imola - Berendi Erzsébet: A Kótaj-Verba-tanya, halastó (Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg megye) lelőhelyen előkerült állatcsontok archaeozoológiai vizsgálata

Kelemen Imola — Berendi Erzsébet Archaeozoological review of the animal findings from Kótaj-Verba-tanya, fishpond (Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County) The excavation took place in 2006 on the site called “Kótaj-Verba-tanya, halastó (fishpond)”. Not more than 96 pieces of animal bones were available for examination out of which only 78 were to be connected to an archaeological period. Thus we examined 1 fragment from the Bronze Age, 28 pieces from the Roman Period and 49 pieces from the Migration Period. Most of the findings are probably kitchen midden, only two of them seem to have been tools. The examined material is highly fragmented and in a bad condition. The total of the bony material is unfortunately not representing the character of the site, nor is it suitable for statistical conclusions on the different periods’ properties. The graves were mostly robbed, only two of them contained animal bones. However, looking at the bony findings as a whole we can still get a picture on some of the former society’s preferences, such as animal husbandry or diet. In some cases it is also worth to take a closer look at the units separately with regards on their original context, as they can also offer some interesting information themselves. Even deeper into it, in some cases the single bone elements themselves can carry valuable information, which we are presenting in the article. These details give a complete value to the research and offer a comparative base to the possible further examinations on the territory.
